Amoxi-Dry – Intramammary Dry Cow Ointment
For Prevention and Treatment of Mastitis During the Dry Period
Dosage Form:
Intramammary Ointment
Composition:
Each 4 g syringe contains:
200 mg Amoxicillin (as Amoxicillin Trihydrate)
Mechanism of Action:
Amoxicillin trihydrate is a broad-spectrum, bactericidal β-lactam antibiotic, highly effective against common mastitis-causing pathogens — primarily Gram-positive bacteria such as:
- Streptococcus agalactiae
- Staphylococcus aureus
- Beta-hemolytic Streptococci
- Escherichia coli
Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial lysis and death.
Indications:
Amoxi-Dry is indicated for the prevention of new intramammary infections and treatment of existing subclinical mastitis in dairy cows during the dry period.
It must be administered immediately after the last milking before the start of the dry period.
Its slow-release base ensures extended protection throughout the dry period against penicillin-resistant and Gram-positive bacteria.
Dosage & Administration:
- Fully milk out the udder.
- Wash the udder and teats thoroughly with warm water containing a mild disinfectant.
- Dry with a clean towel.
- Disinfect each teat end with alcohol.
- Remove the syringe cap and insert the full contents into the teat canal.
- Massage upward toward the milk cistern to distribute the ointment.
✅ Note: Use of partial insertion technique reduces the risk of introducing new infections during the dry period.
Withdrawal Periods:
- Meat: Do not slaughter animals for at least 30 days after last treatment.
- Milk: Not applicable during dry period treatment.
Precautions:
- Do not use in animals allergic to penicillin.
- Keep out of reach of children.
Storage:
Store in a dry place below 25°C (77°F).
Packaging:
Supplied in 4 g syringes.
