(Intramammary Ointment)

Antibiotic
Dosage Form:
Intramammary Ointment
Composition:
Each 8 g syringe contains:
- Ceftiofur (Hydrochloride) – 500 mg
Mechanism of Action:
Ceftiofur is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Like other cephalosporins and penicillins, it exhibits a bactericidal mechanism of action. Cephalosporins bind to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located in the cytoplasmic membrane of bacteria. This binding interferes with transpeptidase activity and other enzymes involved in cell wall synthesis, ultimately inhibiting bacterial cell wall formation. As a result, bacterial cell division and growth are disrupted, leading to cell lysis and death in susceptible organisms.
