MetriCeph
(Intrauterine Antibiotic Syringe)
Composition:
Each syringe contains:
- Cefquinome sulfate – 900 mg
Pharmaceutical Group:
- Fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic (β-lactam class)
Mechanism of Action:
Cefquinome is a fourth-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by blocking peptidoglycan cross-linking, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death (bactericidal effect). It is highly resistant to β-lactamase enzymes, making it effective in the uterine environment where resistant pathogens may be present.
Cefquinome demonstrates broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negativebacteria, including key pathogens involved in bovine uterine infections:
- Actinomyces spp.
- Corynebacterium pyogenes
- Anaerobes such as Fusobacterium spp.
Indications:
For the treatment of uterine infections in cattle, including:
- Clinical and subclinical endometritis
- Metritis
- Retained placenta
- Post-dystocia infections
