First national fish conference held in Shahroud, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari on 5 Mehr focused on cold‑water fish development, health, diseases and export market. Rahim Mehr, head of Jihad Agriculture Organization, highlighted the province’s natural advantages and reported 495 farms with >39,000‑ton capacity, 26 feed factories supplying 60‑70 % of national need and exporting 70,000 tons, and 12 processing plants with >44,000‑ton capacity, forming a full production chain valued at ~600,000 billion rials. Private sector funded the event. The conference addressed productivity, water impact, disease, nutrition, market and export challenges and proposed a permanent secretariat for biennial meetings. Chamber of Commerce head noted the creation of an association of cold‑water fish exporters/importers, 296 certificates of origin issued, and a 280 % export growth last year, with prices rising 80‑90 % due to Eurasian demand. Employment of 10,000 people in the chain faces working‑capital shortages; currency‑obligation issues persist. Export of trout to Russia helped sustain production; 500 farms cooperate with Lorestan and Khuzestan, 2 processing units registered for Russian export, 1,000 tons processed in H1. Fish‑feed exports reached 117,000 tons last year, 30 % drop this year; 25 % of inputs are soy/corn. Export markets include Iraq, Armenia, Tajikistan, Georgia, Nakhchivan, Turkey, Uzbekistan. The chain is now complete nationwide, with 70 % of feed needs met by the province. An exhibition will follow the conference. Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari remains the country’s top cold‑water fish producer.
