Deputy Hakim Mehr announced that Bushehr province has begun revising its shrimp broodstock protocol under an intelligent genetic management approach. The first meeting was held on Thursday with representatives from fisheries, veterinary science, the shrimp research institute, and shrimp breeding unions, aiming to organize existing broodstock, create a database, and develop standardized health (SPF/SPT) and genetic protocols. It emphasized moving beyond traditional methods to assess genetic, health, quality, and disease‑tolerance traits, including the use of genetic coefficients and molecular markers. Continuous sessions are planned before the next production season to improve quality and sustainability. Bushehr currently produces 40,000 shrimp annually, contributing 60 % of the national industry’s output.
